Top Tips for Welcoming Autumn into Your Home

With September drawing to a close we are saying goodbye to the summer and hello to October and the winter nights that come with it. This is generally a cause for much upset, anguish and -a pastime all brits enjoy- a good old moan! But we’ve found some reasons to rejoice at the cooling of the weather this year.

First off we have the beauty of the season itself, the leaves turning from green to beautiful shades of red and orange, making those Sunday pre-dinner walks much more exhilarating, let’s be honest now no one can resist kicking a mound of falling leaves on the side of the road.

The scariest of all holidays…Halloween, the time of year it is perfectly acceptable to knock on the doors of complete strangers demanding either sweets or money.

And then, our personal favourite, those cozy cuddly nights in watching the T.V (Xfactor and Strictly Come Dancing officially start the autumn nights in our book).

So in celebration of the changing seasons we have some top tips to help you create a beautiful autumn design theme;

  1. This is the time of year your fireplace truly shines! Use a Sunday afternoon stroll to its full advantage by searching for some nature to bring home. Pine Cones and dried leaves make great seasonal décor. Small pumpkins – this is the perfect time of year to grab some at your local supermarket -, dried leaf vines and colourful candles will brighten your mantelpiece.

  1. The nights are creeping in earlier and earlier at this time of year and that tends to mean you spend more time cuddled up on the sofa. Throw blankets and complimenting autumn coloured pillows will make any nook the perfect setting to cozy up and lose yourself in a good book.

  1. Autumn is such a visual season that the other senses tend to be ignored. But the smells of autumn are just as appealing as the beauty. Pumpkin Pie (I say every year I will make it one and never do I’m sure this year will be the year!), Cinnamon, Cloves and log fires. Candles are a perfect way to incorporate those autumn smells or you have the option of huge array of air fresheners in this seasons scents.

  1. Fairy Lights…Need I say more?! Yes, we know these are traditionally associated with the Christmas season but fairy lights can really bring the autumn décor together. Our suggestions are wrapping them around a vase, curtain pole or on your mantel piece.

  1. Make sure to add autumn décor to all your rooms. Brown, red’s and orange colours in the form of throw blankets, cushions, candles and towels are an easy alternative to having a complete re-furb and let’s face it cheaper too!

Hopefully our top tips have made you at least slightly happier about the change of season.

Happy Halloween!!
